Sonja Wright, MS, CCC-SLP
Speech Language Pathologist for Encore Rehabilitation Services
Sonja is available for all Elms patients who may have suffered or are suffering from the after affects of cardiopulmonary disorders, post-surgical debility, dysphagia, neurological conditions, some brought on by heart attacks, stroke, pneumonia, COPD, or by other effects of aging. At The Elms, speech therapy is intended to improve a patient’s ability to speak, breathe, and/or swallow. It may also be used to improve the understanding of language and the ability to express oneself through words.
The OmniFlow™ Breathing Therapy Biofeedback System is a groundbreaking new method of delivering this breathing therapy and replaces the use of monotonous, plastic spirometers with an engaging, interactive exercise. OmniFlow™ exercises are customizable and provide valuable inhalation and exhalation data to the therapist, helping to effectively assess the patient and guide future breathing treatments, and improve outcomes and quality of life. There are three audio and visual programs each focusing on a different aspect of breathing; forced inhalation, forced exhalation, and rhythmic breathing. The patient experience is comfortable and fun and the touch screen laptop can be brought right into the patient’s room. “The patients really enjoy their therapy and find the “games” a challenge, always wanting to beat their last score,“ Sonja stated. This motivation to do better, in turn, makes the patient better. Sonja is also available for cognitive communication therapy, which includes such areas as: attention, memory, problem solving, categorization and sequencing skills to improve independence and safety with ADLS (Activities of Daily Living).
To create a partnership through life's journey between community, staff, residents, and families. Together we strive to maintain dignity, comfort, and trust.
