"Thank you, Jane, staff, and administrators, for all of the extra work that you are clearly doing for our loved ones. I’m so glad that I came to the family meeting, last night, to learn more about the problems to pray about and people to thank. I’m sure that I’m not the only one who wishes we could supply your needs to make less stress for you. The fun activities that you work so hard to create for everyone really helps, I’m sure, and it’s so fun to see pictures of the activities! Thank you for using this app to help us all stay in touch. May God bless you all!"

"I was weak and in a wheelchair when I arrived at the Elms. Thanks to the Physical and Occupational Therapy staff at The Elms, within 10 days I was in a walker and in 5 days walking around the house. From the housekeeping staff and cooks to the nurses and office personnel, they were all fantastic people, always friendly, helpful, and thinking ahead of my needs. I am especially grateful to the Physical and Occupational Therapy staff, who always challenged me. I would highly recommend The Elms."

"They treat elderly with respect an kindness. They do things to the best of their knowledge. They help family members understand what is happening with their loved one as best as they can."

The Elms History
First known as the County Poor Farm in 1856, it became the Almshouse in 1884 in Scotland Township. It has provided comfort and care for people in need. In 1949 the Almshouse or McDonough County Farm was turned into a nursing home, and given the name The Elms Nursing Home. By 1950, as the nursing home needs grew the facility was moved to the former TB Sanatorium in Bushnell. In 1973 the facility had deteriorated beyond reasonable repair. Our current facility opened on October 9, 1977 and is currently called The Elms.
Blanche Martin Estate
Blanche Martin, a long time McDonough County resident, bequeathed the annual earnings of her 120 acre farm to McDonough County. She specified that earnings be used to help keep the costs down for residents of the Elms.
Over the years, The Elms has been able to use this memorial to purchase many items that have and continue to improve the quality of life for the many residents that we have served.
